Information for Charities
How does ShareGift work with Charities?
The most effective way for a charity to utilise ShareGift Australia is to raise awareness of the organisation with their supporters encouraging them to donate their shares to us. There are a number of ways we may choose to communicate this to your supporters including regular newsletters, annual reports, their website or a specific appeal for shares or dividends. We are very happy to talk to you about the best way to promote ShareGift Australia to your donors or to assist in the preparation of any of these materials. ShareGift Australia can also help charities facilitate the handling of all of their share donations.

Recommending Charities
In order for ShareGift Australia to maintain its DGR status, we are unable to state that proceeds for share sales will go directly to your organisation. It is essential to understand that shareholders will be donating the proceeds of share sales to ShareGift Australia for distribution to Australian charities. Donors are able to nominate their preferred charity or charities; however the final decision is made by the Board of ShareGift Australia. Below is a sample paragraph that could be used in a promotion:
“Donors are invited to recommend charities to receive donations. The Board of ShareGift Australia considers these recommendations and has the sole discretion to determine which charity will receive any cash donation and the amount and timing of such gift.”
Donation forms
The ShareGift Australia donation form is a legal document which provides ShareGift Australia with the instruction to sell shares on behalf of a donor and pay proceeds of the sale to ShareGift Australia. It must therefore not be altered.
If you are sending out ShareGift Australia donation forms to your supporters, ShareGift Australia may consider amending the ShareGift Australia donation form to include the DGR entity name of the organisation in the optional recommendation box on the donation form.
It is important that the donation forms be returned directly to ShareGift Australia and not to the charitable organisation, so that shares can be sold in a timely manner.
